Daily Five Book Study Chapter 4

I can not believe that we are already on Chapter 4! I love reading this book! If you do not have this book, click on the book below to go to Amazon:

One thing discussed was to have a signal to gather the children together for the Huddle or to gain their attention. I love to use a wireless doorbell. You can keep it in your pocket so it is accessible anywhere you go. This is great if you have a Responsive Classroom as well.

It is very important to document their learning. Making their learning visible and permanent will increase their success! Chart Racks are great for this. Keep the charts up that you make with them so they can refer to them for review or a refresher!

Tools are needed to make this a successful experience for students!Sand timers, regular timers, and books are just some of the tools needed. Remember, you must train the students so they do not view any tools that you put out as toys. These are not to be played with. These are to build their stamina, increase their independence!

Book Boxes are needed so that the students can choose their 3 to 10 good fit books for the week and store them in one spot. Organization is important. Book Boxes allow them to bring their
books with them.

I found these magazine holders at IKEA for 5 for $1.99. I bought enough for each student to have one!  Click on the picture below for the link to Ikea!

These are charts that write down what they should be doing during their time at that area. It is a great reference tool!

I made some I-Charts for my implementation of Daily 5 in my room this year! I have included a link to them if you would like. Just click on the picture below!

Make sure you have a spot in your room designated as a gathering place for your learning huddles. it must be big enough for all of the students to sit comfortably. A huddle should only last the number of minutes equivalent to the age of your students. This is the spot where you will all transition to in between Daily 5 Rotations. You will teach a small focus lesson here!

Your classroom should be organized and be set up so that the students can find comfortable places to work independently! Supplies should be readily available and the environment should feel welcoming, safe and secure!

We discussed earlier the importance of having a quiet signal! I use a wireless door bell in my class room.

So for my giveaway, I am giving a doorbell away  to one lucky reader, so please enter the rafflecopter below!!!
